| Seavets events are held
on inland waters as well as coastal locations, starting in March and carrying
through the summer until October. The full programme is on the
Events 2009 page. Racing: about a dozen
events are designated "Prime Events" counting towards trophies awarded
at the end of the season. The Raceboard fleet is divided into classes by age -
Seniors (under 50), Veterans (50 - 59), Supervets (60 - 70) and Megavets (over
70). Maximum sail size is 7.5m in the Raceboard classes. There is also an Open
class with no limitations on board or sail, and a One Lap fleet who race on a
shortened course - usually One Lap Less! Social
Sailing: other events are purely recreational. The aim is to provide enjoyable
sailing for all levels of windsurfing ability.
Many members
also meet during the week or at weekends to windsurf together. One group meets
regularly on Wednesdays during the summer at locations on the south coast, and
others at Datchet Reservoir, near Windsor in Berkshire, and at Whitwell on Rutland
Water. For more details click here.
Group holidays to Minorca and Brittany are organized each year and other
small groups take windsurfing holidays together on an informal basis. (Dahab is
becoming popular) |
