Home Events Seavets Championships

17 members signed on to race on a rather unpromising morning. Eventually the wind signed on as well, and racing got under way at midday. Race Officer Tony Chandler set a simple triangle round the island, starting over the far side of the lake, and managed to get 2 races in before a late lunch and 2 more races in the afternoon.
Tony Goodwin had put up his biggest sail, Graham managed to stay ahead of him in the 1st race, but Tony was too quick after that. Behind those two, finish places were closely contested and positions fluctuated all day. Russell finally beat David by 1 point to be leading Megavet, with Chris and Hugh close behind, and behind them there was some more keen racing within the next group.
At the prize-giving, Graham was presented with the Chairman's Cup for winning the Championship event, and with the Research into Ageing Cup for 1st Supervet in the Series, in which he was also first overall. David Pashley won the Dennis Heywood Cup as first Megavet in the series. A look at the overall Series results shows a close contest in prospect for next year's Megavet title, with David and Hugh Norris joined by Russell and Joe Coulson.
The Chairman and Vice- Chairman had to put their heads together over the Veterans' trophy. They eventually decided to award it to Ruth Tracey, a Lady Veteran. There were not enough entries in the Ladies class to award the trophy for leading Lady, and Ruth had finished above the (male) Veterans. Ruth expressed her huge gratitude to the absent Andy Lacy, who would have won the class, and trophy, if he had competed at this final event.
