Social Sailing
Terry gybing HMS Carrot at HamworthyThis year there will be the now customary holidays in Minorca in May and Brittany in July. Poole Week will be the 9th - 12th June. Weymouth and Calshot in September are at the customary times: Calshot on 3rd - 6th and Weymouth 'week will be from the 22nd - 25th September. In addition, there will be a weekend at Christchurch on 8th - 9th August, and a day at Hamworthy, in Poole Harbour on 13th June, immediately after Poole Week.

Some of the venues that we have used for many years for our racing events are also ideally suited to our non-racing members. So the weekends at Bala and Whitwell (Rutland Water) are now for both racing and social sailing. Both of these offer extensive waters, and our custom has always been to have a meal together on the Saturday evening. Camping is available at Bala on a nearby campsite, and at Whitwell on site. These will both be 3-day weekends, from Friday to Sunday. Another venue suitable for our social sailors is Brogborough, which we will visit twice this year.

Midweek Social Sailing on the South Coast

Lunch time at HamworthyA Seavets group meets to windsurf once a week on the south coast from April through to October or November. Details from Geoff Hook - email or telephone 01202 604732 or from Colin Stirret email or telephone 01425-279817

We choose safe locations as we have no rescue cover on these occasions, but of course we keep an eye on each other while sailing.

Island Cruises and Informal Racing at Datchet

On Wednesdays, weather permitting, a group of Seavets usually meet at Datchet Water SC, aiming to have 4 informal races round the reservoirs buoys during the day. Further information from Norman Haddon.

Norman also organises a series of island cruises. Depending on the weather these can be quite strenuous, but are more usually a gentle days cruising incorporating stops for lunch and tea. The distance covered in a day is typically some 20 miles. A raceboard is essential to ensure efficient beating, particularly in light wind conditions. The group sails without rescue cover and so takes all possible safety precautions. More details here (pdf format)
