The Seavets racing series events are held on inland waters, starting in March and carrying through the summer until the beginning of October. The series comprises about a dozen events counting towards trophies awarded at the end of the season.
The Raceboard fleet is divided into classes by age - Seniors (under 50), Veterans (50 - 59), Supervets (60 - 69), Megavets (70 - 79) and Octovets (over 80) - and yes, we have 3 of them!
Maximum sail size is 7.8m in the Raceboard classes. There is also an Open class with no limitations on board or sail, and a One Lap fleet who race on a shortened course - usually One Lap Less!
Proceedings usually start with a briefing at 10.30am, with the aim of getting out on the water by 11 o'clock. 2 races are held before lunch, and 2 after, with the prize-giving at about 4.30, enabling people to get away by about 5pm. An Event Entry Fee is charged - £15 or £17 currently. Most locations offer catering facilities, and where possible details are given on the venue information page. Otherwise bring your own sandwiches!
New to Racing? For an informal introduction to racing, a small group meet regularly at Datchet Water midweek for 'fun' racing around the fixed buoys there. More details from Richard Williams. If you are interested in starting to race in the Seavets series then read this guide.
If you would like to have a go at racing we have a spare raceboard available which we can bring to any event if requested in advance. You will have to use your own rig. If you are interested please get in touch with Ruth Tracey.
