August 6th at Farmoor – racing at last!

After 3 cancellations in May June and July (too much wind, no wind, no wind)everyone was very keen to get back on the water again.  With a forecast W to NW force 3 to 4 W with sun and clouds it was not surprising to see 13 sailors turn raring to go. This included more sa

ilors under 75 than over 75 so the future is looking bright! Joe set a figure of eight course with plenty of reaching and no runs (does anyone really like a run?) which kept is on the windy side of the lake and out of the way of the many youngsters on courses.

The first race started promptly but to the consternation of the fleet the gate board was sailing a strange course, and definitely not upwind. It turned out that the gate board had forgotten to put his daggerboard down. (I promise not to mention your name Kerry). We all coped and the two morning races enjoyed good competition often in planing conditions.

The wind dropped a bit at lunchtime but nevertheless we had the odd stronger gust to keep us on our toes.
