On Monday 28th April, Dave R, John E, Steve, Nick K and I attempted what Dave called the Chichester nearly cruise: we have now tried and failed for the last three years to complete this trip. We did however enjoy at times a lovely day in the sunshine, launching from HISC we had an easy sail down to Bosham assisted by the incoming tide, we arrived on time and had a short coffee break before launching again with difficulty through the weed forest. We made slow progress back up the Bosham channel and then turned East along the Chichester channel. At this point the tide was stronger than the wind, so John, Nick and I headed over to Itchenor, while Steve and Dave who were further back sent a message to say they were heading back to base.
At Itchenor we had a nice lunch at the Ship inn before setting off in what was now a nice steady breeze for a pleasant beat back to HISC, where Steve and Dave had landed safely and were busy washing the seaweed from their kit. Each of the 3 legs of the trip had taken almost exactly an hour, it was disappointing not have made it to Dell Quay but we did have 3 hours on the water in this lovely estuary.
Steve's Garmin record is below:
